Training for Peer Supporters

Do you support or counsel persons who have moved to Finland? Would you like to gain new tools and strengthen your self-knowledge and self-confidence as a group host?

The Finnish Refugee Council will organise a free training course for peer supporters in English in Helsinki in June. The course has been recently renewed.

Schedule: 

• Wednesday, 4 June from 4 to 7 pm
• Saturday, 7 June from 10 am to 4 pm

Place: Vallila, Helsinki

We will also give you voluntary independent study materials. Later in June, you can give a voluntary group hosting sample. You will hear more about it during our sessions.

Unfortunately, participating in only one part of the course is not possible. You can compensate for short absences with extra tasks. Also, remote participation is not possible in this course.

Why should you participate in the training?

• The training will give you practical tools to support peer groups
• You will also learn about theories that explain peer support
• The training will improve your self-knowledge and self-confidence as a group host
• Our training has received excellent feedback. In 2024, the average score given to the training, was 4,78 /5 and 98 % of persons who gave feedback would recommend our training for others.
• After the training, you can participate in our advanced training courses every year and join our WhatsApp group for peer supporters.

Who can apply for the training course?

Our training course suits you if you support newcomers in your work or free time. The training can also be a fruitful experience for persons considering studying the health and social field in the future.

Most contents can be applied to both individual and group support.

The application period will end when we have chosen 18 participants, but at the latest on 7 May 2025. We will inform the applicants about the choices by 12 May.
