Local Guide groups organise spare time activities with asylum seekers. The guides and asylum seekers get to know the city together. The activities bring a welcome change to the challenging life situations of asylum seekers. By becoming a local guide, you can help newcomers understand Finland in a fun way!
As a Local Guide, you’ll develop your skills as a group facilitator, event organiser and a local guide. You’ll also practice your language skills and deepen your intercultural understanding.
Being a local guide requires about six hours of your time every month, excluding the summer months. The groups meet once a week or every other week.
Currently, we have Local Guide groups in Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo and Tampere.
Are you interested in founding a new group in another area? We’re happy to help and support you.
”When you arrive at the reception centre and meet twenty smiling people who have just met, and understand you were the one who brought them together, it makes you smile with the rest of them. ”
Volunteers can participate in planning and implementing FRC’s events and campaigns. You can join these when it suits you. Subscribe to our Volunteers’ Newsletter and be the first to hear about our upcoming events.
The events take place mainly in the Helsinki region and in Lahti.
YES, I want to be a volunteer!
